Fire Fighters Foundation of Houston Donates Covid Related Life-Saving Materials to Houston Fire Department
Houston, TX – The Covid 19 crisis has created the need for equipment and materials not necessarily within the inventory of the Houston Fire Department. Through the help of local and national corporations and organizations, the Fire Fighters Foundation of Houston can donate $83,000 or services and material essential to helping to protect Houston fire fighters.
Donations from Apache Corporation, ExxonMobil, Chevron, Impact Fluids, Houston Building Owners and Managers Association, Union Pacific Railroad Foundation and individuals have enabled the Foundation to purchase:
- Over 2,000 Personal Protection Equipment (PPE) Kits that include gowns, masks, gloves and other protection items.
- Four electrostatic backpack sprayers used to decontaminate stations and vehicles after possible exposure to the Corona Virus and other dangers to be permanently use by the HAZMAT teams.
- $10,000 in Chevron gift cards to be distributed to HFD members and their families for hospital or medical visits for Covid related issues or cancer.
“Through the generous donations of these organizations, we can help protect our fire fighters and aide them when needed. We thank the Fire Fighters Foundation of Houston and its donors for continued support to the brave men and women of the Houston Fire Department,” Samuel Pena, Houston Fire Chief, said.
These donations along with individual donations from the public has enabled the Foundation to move forward with these purchases. The goal is it to purchase one PPE kit for each of the 4,000 members of the Houston Fire Department. This purchase of 2,000 kits still leaves 2,000 to purchase. Each kit cost $35, donations to purchase a kit can be made by going to www.fffhouston.com. Every donation helps to keep our first responders safe as we move through this health crisis.
The Fire Fighters Foundation of Houston is the official charity of the Houston Fire Department. The Foundation’s sole purpose is to raise funds to purchase equipment and materials essential to the fire department but not in the city’s budget. The foundation has donated more than $2 million in equipment to date. A total of 95.8 cents of every dollar goes directly to purchase needed materials.
