On September 10th, Harris County Commissioners Court voted to propose a new property tax rate for 2019. After the County was given three options to choose from, County Judge Lina Hidalgo, Commissioner Rodney Ellis, and Commissioner Adrian Garcia voted for the option with the largest increase; one that increases the total combined tax rate compared to last year from $0.62998 to $0.65260 per $100 valuation. This could be as much as a 12% increase including the rise in property values.

While Harris County citizens will not vote on the new property tax rate, there will be three meetings that will allow the public to attend and voice their concerns. The meetings will be held at the Harris County Commissioners Court at 1001 Preston Street, Houston, TX and are scheduled for the following days and times:

  • September 20, 2019 at 1:00 PM
  • September 24, 2019 at 10:00 AM
  • October 8, 2019 at 10:00 AM* (*During this meeting, the Court will formally adopt a new 2019 property tax rate.)

We urge you to attend one of these meetings and/or to contact County Judge Lina Hidalgo and your County Commissioner directly to express the burden that this will place on taxpayers.
