BOMA's Tree Planting Project

Houston BOMA’s Green Committee is seeking your assistance in planting 20 trees in conjunction with Trees for Houston. Donations for this project are now being accepted at http://www.houstonboma.org/en/donations/add.asp. The trees will be planted on November 15^th in Buffalo Bayou Park.

City of Houston's GREEN Building Tours

SIXTH GREEN BUILDING TOUR

You are invited to the sixth of a series of tours of certified green buildings here in Houston. The tour will take place on Monday, August 18, 2008, every 30 minutes from 11:00 a.m. to 2:00 p.m. at the American Heart Association near the West Loop South on Buffalo Speedway.

Go to www.houstontx.gov/mayor/leedtour.pdf for more details and a map. Your participation in this event and your interest and support for green building efforts across Houston is very much appreciated.

Green buildings save owners and users money with greater energy efficiency. They are better for our environment with more re-use of material. Ultimately, they foster a happier and healthier workplace for employees. To help along this path, the City of Houston has put together the Mayor's Green Building Advisory Council in partnership with companies that have led the way in green building and achieved certification of their facilities according to LEED (Leadership in Energy and Environmental Design) green building rating standards. The objective of this group is to share experiences including cost/benefit business cases and key learning with others to help accelerate green building across the city.

Harris County is currently under a tropical storm warning. Tropical Storm Edouard is currently anticipated to strike the Texas coast late Monday night or early Tuesday morning. Building Expo . . . 2010!

Houston BOMA is hosting the 2009 Southwest Regional Conference next spring! Because this event will tax our Allied Professional member resources and would severely limit the size of our Building Expo, and, after much careful deliberation and with input from the Allied Professional Council and the Building Expo Committee, the Houston BOMA Board has made the decision to put the 2009 Building Expo on hold until 2010.

What does this mean for you? It means you have a rare opportunity to participate in showing off our fair city at the 2009 Southwest Regional Conference! Education: CPM to RPA Fast Track Designation

If you currently have your CPM designation and are looking to gain your RPA designation, you are eligible for competency credits that fast track you through the RPA program.

To obtain your RPA, you are required to take 8 courses and complete an experience requirement. If you have your CPM, you are eligible for "Cluster Competency" (see page 3). By having your CPM, you are given credit for your designation course work. You will be exempt from four of the required courses and the experience requirement. This means that you will only need to take the following four courses to receive your RPA designation:

Design, Part I
Design, Part II
Budgeting & Accounting
Environmental Health & Safety Issues

Announcing The City's New Green Web Site!

The City of Houston has unveiled a new tool to help citizens Go Green! www.greenhoustontx.gov is a new Web site designed to help educate citizens. Learn what you can do to become green, learn what the City is doing to become green, and quickly locate all the City's green programs and services.

You can access the City's new green Web site from the City's home page, www.houstontx.gov. Just go to the Green Houston link which is about a third of the way down the page on the right hand side.

"The City of Houston is working harder than ever to make Houston green," said Mayor White. "We have made a lot of progress, but more is needed. We need the help of every citizen of Houston to do their part. I would encourage everyone to take a little time and explore this Web site to learn what they can do to make Houston green."

2009 BOMA Budgeting Info

I know you are all beginning to plan for 2009 as we are. To help you prepare to include BOMA in your budget, this letter provides with information about the upcoming estimated dues prices, costs for events and sponsorship opportunities.

Below are the anticipated dues amounts by membership category:
- Principal $985
- Property Manager $585
- Assistant Property Manager $430
- Chief Engineers $405
- Assistant Chief Engineers $310
- Government $695
- Additional Government $430
- Student (for interns) $40
- Allied Professional $1335
- Secondary Allied Professional $935

In addition, the cost for a standard luncheon is $25 for members with our luncheons occurring in January, February, April, June, July, August, September and November.
In March and December, we will have our TOBY and Holiday luncheons, respectively. These luncheons normally cost between $55 and $75 for members.
We also have multiple large networking events that require varied costs: two golf tournaments, Casino Night, Zoo Night, and Young Professional luncheons and events.
We also provide a variety of education sessions (Green, Basic Training and seminars) that usually range from $25-$35 for members.

In addition to these events, we also have a wide range of sponsorships. All of our large networking events have opportunities to sponsor, ranging from $250-$5000. These events include the Building Expo, Casino Night, Zoo Night, Holiday Luncheon, TOBY Luncheon, YP Socials and the 2009 Southwest Conference. Our weekly email, The BUZZ, sponsorship is $250 for one month (four emails). You can also place an ad in our BOMA Highlights newsletter that is published 6 times a year. These prices can be found on our web site.

Houston BOMA is the largest commercial real estate association in Houston. I know you will agree that we are the leader in advocacy and information for the commercial real estate industry and provide services and resources unavailable elsewhere.
