HFD Extends 10-Sprinkler Head Letter- January 3, 2012
Good morning and Happy New Year. We are pleased to inform you that HFD has reconsidered rescinding the "10-sprinkler head letter" allowance and will again allow for installation of 10 sprinkler heads or less without a permit with the submission of the appropriate letter under the revised guidelines below:
"After further discussions between Public Works and the Fire Marshal’s Office the decision has been made to extend the current “10 Head Letter” policy affecting sprinkler add and relocates, with one important change. All letters faxed to the Fire Marshal shall include detailed information about the specific location of the work performed, applicable project numbers, etc. This is to both ensure accurate record keeping as well as facilitate random site checks by the Fire Marshal.
In addition, the Fire Marshal reserves the right to refuse letters that are not submitted in the spirit and intent of the policy."

BOMA thanks Chief Fire Inspector Charles Vento for working with us on this issue and for reconsidering the position of eliminating the letter which would have caused each sprinkler job to be permitted creating significant additional cost and delay to tenant buildouts.
